Quote from Leon Eisenberg’s classic 1986 paper which addressed how psychiatry initially had little interest in physiology i.e. neurotransmitters and the physical brain and then later overcompensated by ignoring social contexts. He said that to ask how much of the mind is biological and how much social is as meaningless as to ask how much of the area of a rectangle is due to its width and how much to its height.
